2020 Trip Itinerary: 1. Leave Buffalo  2. Go through Erie Canal 3. Now what? We've been on the Erie Canal for so long, it was hard to imagine taking Dumbledore anywhere else. But everyone was excited to move on and see what other places we could swim, walk, and explore.  Our first stop was in Troy, just outside of Albany, where we were very abruptly reintroduced to the concept of tides. Troy is on the Hudson River, which, unlike the Erie Canal, has a drastic change in water level at different times of the day as the tides come in and out. It also didn't help that when we pulled up to the Troy town wall, the public floating dock was under construction. A Vacation from our Vacation

<WARNING> Real feelings ahead. Proceed with caution. </WARNING> When you try the cruising lifestyle, you're going to come across a lot of people who tell you what to do. (Particularly old white men who see their power waning as their bodies slowly decay into a puddle of clogged arteries and bushy ear hair.) They tell you "go to this marina" or "check out this bar" and proceed to bore you with fifteen minutes worth of directions you'll never remember and information you could have gotten in five seconds from your phone. (And most of the time you weren't interested in "this marina" or "that bar" in the first place.) They tell you what boat to buy, what equipment to get, what route to take, and when to go home. Those people suck, but they're kind of easy to ignore and make fun of once you've driven your boat away from them. A Little Tipsy After New Year's

Remember when you were in high school geometry (I know, those are painful memories, but bear with me) and your teacher asked you to solve some absurd question that had nothing to do with real life? That question might be something like this: some weirdos need to know the angle of inclination of a right triangle given the base and height of said triangle and some convoluted formulas with letters in them? And you always wondered, who were these weirdos and why didn't they have a better hobby? Well, I can now tell you, those weirdos are us. (I still can't tell you why we don't have a better hobby.) That's right. I am now a real-life math problem.  But I'm going to get back to that in a minute. It would be mean to deluge you with too much math all at once.  Compared to our weeks of naps, relaxing, hanging out at the beach, and napping some more, the last few days at our marina in Stuart were busy.
