Mischief Managed Afloat: Next Generation

Before we left, when we talked to people about this trip, we would inevitably be asked "where are you going?" I struggled with answering that question. I could say "North," but that wasn't descriptive enough. I could say "I don't know," but that made me sound like I had an even worse grasp on geography than I actually do. (Which isn't a lot.) I could try to explain that "this trip was an experiment to identify what parts of boat life were for us and our kids and what equipment and locations would be a good fit for future travels," but half-way through their eyes would glaze over and they would start looking at their phones for an excuse to stop talking to me. So in the end, I would say something like "Alaska, or maybe Vancouver?" We didn't go to Alaska. We also didn't go to Vancouver.  Remember the beginning of last week's post when I said there wasn't anything dramatic enough happening to build a climactic arc into the post? This week even less happened. That's not a bad thing though. I'd take boring and relaxing over chaotic and dangerous any day.  We originally set out on this trip with some lofty stretch goals (Alaska) and some slightly less lofty medium goals (Vancouver) but we realized the cliche is true. It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. Or, at least in our situation it is. (If you're headed to the bathroom however, it definitely is about the destination. Hurry! Go!)  We could still make it to these exotic places, but at this point, the scales have tipped and we have more reasons to go south and north. I'm sure there are incredible things up north, and I know there amazing sights that we would love to see, but when our kids are 3 and 4, the sights aren't that important. They don't care about majest...
